Poetry is a difficult thing to write
when one does not consider oneself a poet
by any stretch of the imagination.
(and one has plenty of that)
The problem one is faced with
is developing the ideas in one’s imagination
into something more stimulating.
(no, one is not referring to sexual intercourse)
One has lots of ideas
whizzing around one’s brain.
However, one finds that those ideas
merge into one.
(and it is rubbish)
One would much rather spend one’s time
pursuing an activity or pastime
that one finds more rewarding.
(for instance, a new tattoo)
One understands that there are many
who enjoy writing beautiful words on a page.
However, one would prefer to write
beautiful words on one’s skin.
(in a pretty italic script)
One does not judge those of you who write.
One respects you and is sure that one would
find this much more rewarding
if only one were not so bad at writing poetry.
